Overview

What Is a Toughened Glass Pergola?

A toughened glass pergola combines a strong steel frame with a roof of toughened (tempered) safety glass. Toughened glass is heat-treated to around 650°C and rapidly cooled, making it about four to five times stronger than ordinary glass. If it ever breaks, it shatters into small blunt pieces instead of sharp shards, making it safe for overhead use. The result is a bright, weatherproof outdoor space you can enjoy in rain or shine.

  • 4–5× Stronger Than Ordinary Glass
  • Safe Breakage
  • Natural Light, Rain Protection
  • Heat Resistant

How is toughened glass different from ordinary glass?

Toughened glass is heat-treated, making it 4–5 times stronger and safer — it breaks into small blunt pieces instead of sharp shards.

Which glass thickness should I choose?

8 mm suits small spans, 10 mm is ideal for most homes, and 12 mm or laminated glass is best for large or commercial pergolas.

Does a glass pergola make the area too hot?

Tinted, reflective or heat-control glass can reduce heat while keeping the space bright.

How is rainwater handled?

The roof is sloped towards a gutter so rainwater drains away from the seating area.
